Who wouldn't know the brilliant director, Stanley Kubrick, who with his maximism, drove many of his actors and collaborators crazy, and who put the world's greatest films on the table, let's just think of the visionary and brutally powerful Clockwork Orange, the dazzling visual and philosophical 2001: A Space Odyssey, or the pioneer of horror films, the brilliant work, what name is Shining. Kubrick's Shining is the best example of tension being achieved not only by jumpscares and all sorts of other word-for-word hunts, but also by the power of the dialogues, the acting of the actors, the art of camera management and the most important ingredient, proper instruction from the director and all the way through sorting. It is no wonder that the Movie Academy remembers with immense respect and appreciation for the work of Kubrick, which in its time did not have the due respect and attention, what his movies deserved. I could write epics about Stanley Kubrick's filmography, but now I want to talk about a movie, what is want to impress the fans of the movie and book of the Shining, and this work is the sequel of the Shining, what has been written by Stephen King. This is the Doctor Sleep.
The story centers on Dan Torrance, the child of Jack Torrance, who was introduced in the previous movie. Dan has a difficult time dealing with his childhood trauma suffered by the cursed hotel and his father's alcoholism. Danny, like his father, runs into the alcohol. In addition, he has neither a job nor a secure livelihood. We can say that his life is in ruins. However, later, after many years of work, he manages to recover from alcoholism and finds a job. His life begins to recover. But then his story intersects with a little girl who possesses whith similar abilities as Dan. Danny calls these abilities shining. Meanwhile, in the world, creatures are hunting for people with this ability.
Mike Flanagann had an incredibly difficult job as he set himself the goal of continuing a classic film, and he wanted, that the end result would suit both camps. This is an enormous challenge, as Stephen King, the writer of the book did not like Kubrick's implementation very much. Flanagan has not done major films yet, but has been responsible for conducting smaller productions, including a King adaptation. The director tried his wings in the horror genre, such as Oculus or Ouija, which creations did not operate the usual and boring movie gossip, but dared to create an atmosphere that was not achieved by the jumpscares, what popping up in every minute. Whit this base, it is no coincidence that such a person has been granted with the rights to conduct.
The film is a good follow-up to Dan Torrance's story, which features a name as big as Ewan McGregor. It is fortunate that they have been able to win such an excellence for this role, because if the actor had been bad, the movie probably wouldn't have worked that much. McGregor's game is fun to watch, so the cast of the main character is very well done, and we can tell this about the casting of all the other characters. Simply, every actor works well in his role, even the young Kyliegh Curran, whose play also leaves nothing to be desired. I also have to highlight Rebecca Ferguson from the cast, who was particularly devoted to the role of Rose. The arrangement became lavish, and despite its perhaps unreasonable length, I didn't get bored with the whole work. The cinematographic work has also become fabulous, and there is nothing to be done about it. Photography plays a very important role in creating the atmosphere of the work, because to our luck, the film ignores frills and plays on moodcreation itself without any kind of gas hunts. The script contains nothing special or masterful, but far from bad, which is true of the work as a whole. It is true that it is outstanding compared to recent films, but it can't be that great, as the previous section, but that is not the purpose of Flanagan's work. As he tried to fit everyone, he could not show anything revolutionary that elevated the big one to classic status.
Flanagan touched the material with due respect and understanding and was able to live up to everyone's expectations, but make nothing big surprise. This is an outstanding movie that can be fun for everyone, so my rating is 6/10.
